   I think the British version made things more believably awkward and almost sad in its awkwardness that seemed better than a more over-the-top awkwardness of the US version.

   I like both versions of the show for many different reasons, but for sheer awkwardness no one tops David Brent.

   Of course Ricky Gervais didn’t need acting to be so awkward. That was part of the genius of his David Brent.
